Carry the Light, and Expect Hostility

Once Christ actually becomes visible through you, what happens next? Darkness reacts.

Jesus told His followers plainly to expect hostility, and He grounded that expectation in something deeper than social friction—a spiritual dividing line drawn by His own presence.

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first,” He said, “if you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own… that is why the world hates you.”

The rejection is not personal, no matter how it feels that way. It lands on Christ Himself and, through Him, on the Father. Jesus also said, “Whoever hates me hates my Father as well.”

This comes down to Life exposing those committed to mammal-existence, and the offense of questioning that, and demonstrating something Other. It’s not mere disagreement. Jesus explains that the world “cannot hate” the world, but it hates Him “because I testify that its works are evil.” He identifies the root cause by also saying: “Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.” Light does not provoke by force—it provokes simply by revealing what darkness prefers to keep hidden. To carry that light, then, is to invite the same reaction Jesus received.

If you join the Second Adam in saying, “I’m going to show the world what is Possible, for all who embrace the full faith of Abraham”—it’ll likely get crazy for you.

He did not soften this warning to make it easier to follow Him. He turned it into a promise. He promised, “You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” And He went further, calling that very rejection a blessing: “Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you, and insult you, and reject your name as evil because of the Son of Man.” Hatred aimed at a Christ-follower, then, is not evidence of failure but often a compliment that satan hates it. And the devious diabolical relentless tactics of an enemy that does not sleep will out and out shock you. But, “worth it.”

It’s all part of how He tests and refines us, to get all the way to the Real inside of us.
